More runners than ever before at Pants in the Park 2009

Thanks to the support of Simplyhealth, June was once again awash with people in their pants. Six parks were taken over by our supporters in their decorated pants as we raised awareness and funds with our 5km fun runs in Andover, Bristol, Gateshead, Leeds, London and Manchester.

As always, it wasn’t the fastest pants that counted but the taking part. Two of our winning teams even included toddlers and a dog, which goes to show that anyone can do it. Support this year was overwhelming, even the weather was on our side with the sun shining at every event despite severe weather warnings. Every venue had the support of a local radio station and a fitness warm up to get our runners in the mood. Nothing beats watching a sea of people in decorated pants exercising on a Sunday morning! Top fundraiser prizes for each region were announced in August but let us not forget the best costumes which included a birthday cake, smartie pants, the Bare Bottom Gang, Michael Taylor and family, a multitude of super heroes and the indefatigable Jim Kynaston in his shocking pink wig.

Plans are afoot to include venues in Belfast, Glasgow and Cardiff for 2010 making it a truly national event so we hope to see you resplendent in your decorated pants at Pants in the Park 2010. Visit our new Pants in the Park website www.pantsinthepark.org for details on next year’s races as well as our photo gallery.

Sincere thanks to: The Urology Nurses at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, Real Radio Northeast, South Tyneside Cheerleaders, Heart 96.3, Crusader Cheerleaders, Real Radio Yorkshire, Aviator Cheerleaders, Rock Radio, Cheer Fit, Andover Sound, St John Ambulance, GlaxoSmithKline, Jonathan Spence, Hildon Water, Eat Natural and all our wonderful volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without you.
