Fundraising - The toughest foot race on Earth

His blisters may still be healing but David Kemp has returned victorious from the Marathon des Sables – an epic 126.3 mile marathon which crosses the Sahara desert in Morocco. He finished 512 out of a field of more than 800 competitors in 40 hours and 51 minutes and raised £3,750.

Competitors must carry everything needed in a backpack and prepare their own food. Midday temperatures reach close to 50 degrees celsius and at night they can fall below zero. In spite of this it is still very popular and the UK has a waiting list until 2012.

Enduring rocky terrain, miles of sand dunes and mountains, over the five day course David’s daily activities were eating on the go, collecting water at the check points and trying his best to appreciate the scenery.

Having completed the course, participants celebrated in style with some of the Paris Opera House Orchestra treating them to a concert under the stars. David assures us it was worth the pain and a great experience. We are incredibly grateful to David for supporting Prostate UK.
