UPDATE - Issue 40 - Spring 2010

Sold out concert raises funds to the tune of £10,000

Held at the elegant Wigmore Hall on 9 March and in the presence of our Royal Patron, HRH The Duchess of Gloucester; the annual Jacqueline du Pré Charity Concert was a delightful evening, thoroughly enjoyed by all. A charity is always chosen to be a beneficiary of the event and, now in its fifteenth year, it was the turn of Prostate UK.

In honour of the Chopin bicentenary year, the concert was arranged by the Chopin Society UK and based on a typical 19th century concert in which he would have usually performed. They chose works from Chopin's last Paris and St James's Square concerts of 1848 and Mozart's Piano Trio in E major. The music was beautifully played by a variety of fine musicians including the London Mozart Trio and 19 year old Polish pianist Evelyne Berezovsky who received fitting and rapturous applause for her solo.

After the interval, trustee Ted Clucas spoke on behalf of Prostate UK. He thanked both the artists and the audience for their greatly appreciated support and highlighted our continuing pledge to stop prostate disease ruining lives

Through ticket sales (the event was sold-out) and generous donations, what was a charming and cultured evening raised over £10,000.
